
Balasubramanian Raman is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee since December 2018. He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering from September 2013 to December 2018. He had been with the Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee from September 2004 to September 2013, where he was an Associate Professor and head of the Computer Vision, Graphics and Image Processing Laboratory. He was a Visiting Professor and a member of the
Computer Vision and Sensing Systems Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at
University of Windsor, CANADA during May - August 2009. He was a Lecturer of Computer Science and Information Systems at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India in 2003-04. He was a Post Doctoral Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and a member of the
Visualization Research laboratory (VIZ Lab), at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA from July 2002 to April 2003. He was also a Post Doctoral fellow in the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science (now the Department of Computer Science,
CS), and member of the Computational Intelligence Research Laboratory (CIRL), at University of Missouri-Columbia (MU), Missouri, USA, from October 2001 to June 2002. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics (2001) from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, India. He obtained his B.Sc and M.Sc in Mathematics from University of Madras in 1994 and 1996 respectively.

60th position in the 37th Annual World Finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest held in Saint Petersburg, RUSSIA in 2013. The team "Triangulation", comprises of Vaibhav Gosain, Adarsh Kumar and Saharsh Luthra has bagged
56th position in the 42nd Annual World Finals of International Collegiate Programming Contest held in Peking University, Beijing, CHINA between 15-20 April 2018. Recently, the team, "Hold right there Sparky!!", Devanshu Agarwal, Samarth Joshi, Abhishek Kanhar has bagged
41st position in the 43rd World Finals of International Collegiate Programming Contest held at Porto, PORTUGAL between 31st March - 5th April 2019.
So far he has published more than 150 International Journals, 145 Conference Proceedings (including IEEE-Cloud, CVPR-w, ICCV-w, ICPR, ACPR, WACV, IEEE-IJCNN, IEEE-ICIP and ICVGIP), 7 Book Chapters and a Technical report. His areas of research include Computer Vision: Optical Flow Problems, Fractional Transform Theory, Wavelet Analysis, Image and Video Processing, Multimedia Security: Digital Watermarking and Encryption Techniques, Biometrics, Content Based Image and Video Retrieval, Hyperspectral & Microwave Imaging, Visualization and Volume Graphics. He is a reviewer of ICVGIP, IEEE-IJCNN, Pattern Recognition Letters, International Journal of Computer Mathematics, Journal of Mathematical Imaging and Vision, IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics & Security, IEEE-T-IP, IEEE-T-PAMI and Pattern Recognition. So far he has guided 20 Ph.D students (presently guiding 15 students), 130 Masters Dissertations and 30+ undergraduate Projects.
He is the recipient of BOYSCAST fellowship (awarded by DST, India). He is the recipient of "Outstanding Teacher Award 2010" awarded by IIT Roorkee on Teachers' day (05/09/2010). He is also the recipient of "Outstanding Teacher Award 2020" awarded by IIT Roorkee on Teachers' day (05/09/2020). He is a member of Sakura Science Club, JAPAN. He is a member of IEEE Society, Uttar Pradesh section and acted as a Joint Secretary of the executive committee in the IEEE Uttarkhand Sub-section from July 2011 to March 2013. He was a secretary of the executive committee in the IEEE Uttarkhand Sub-section from April 2013 to January 2018.
