I recently visited IIT-kanpur for its sports fest. Food articles like parantha's, maggi, burger etc were very cheap as compared to what we have to pay here. A normal parantha cost Re 1 , Aloo parantha Rs 2 and so on. Even chicken biryani (yes non-veg is available in their mess and centeens) wa available for a mere Rs50. Leaving that apart is it justified that we pay Rs22 for Maggi which is available for Rs10 in the Market.vI mean afterall the IIT is a government institution and after considering the subsidies , bulk orders , wholesale prices of various food articles etc. Also if you enquire in CL, a tray of eggs (30 eggs) costs around Rs110, Which is less than Rs 4 per egg.

Are these excessive prices justified??

If I'm right, there's no subsidy given to the mess and canteens.

are yaar, iit kanpur ka yaha se compare mat karo......there, there is complete utilisation of govt. money......here ir is u.o.r. only.......there is heaven and here HELL........

it seems here canteens are completely privatised (no govt. funding)

theres somekind of monopoly in this business i see the same guy now in JAWAHAR ,who i saw while in RJB and his parents run the canteen GANGA too

it seems now his brother is running the RJB cant.

relation is simple where there is monopoly  theres a high price

cant we complain to the warden or supervise or any other authority?

or cant any authority fix the rates for all commdities?

I agree with you all, This monopoly needs to be curbed.

Let us put this issue infront of SAC Members, and ask them to take some serious steps regarding it.

If we all work toghter on same. n we have some strike..... and a strong person who can represent us.

Then only this can change......

The least we could hope for is some transperency on this issue by the Respected Authorities thus giving a direction towards the conclusion of this discussion once and for all.

I also find the same issue a serious matter of concern . SAC will make sure that the issue is being raised by them in the  next senate meeting  and some worthwhile action be taken in this regard.

The canteen prices are far beyond limits and the food quality is also very very poor....!! I mean yeh kahan ka insaaf hain yaar?????

Besides that.....we have all the adulteration in the food as well....

I don know of other canteens but in ganga we ppl  have seen the canteen guys using colorants in shakes and chutneys......& no doubt the shakes have more of water than milk...

no hygene in cantene.let's follow the steps of gandhi.and completely boycot all the cantenes unless there is enough improvement.
